This is another of the Twin Rocks Road hikes.  This particular hike is the first trail after the gate on the left.  It has some built in "horse stairs" and some little rock shelves to climb.  It is the shortest trail of several to the "back Lot", a parking lot at Beeks Bight on Lake Folsom.  The hike over the mountain is only about 10-15 minutes, and as you come down the mountain you will come to the intersection of 4 paths in a small clearing surrounded by several large granite outcroppings, this trail is easy, you just continue straight to get to the back lot.  Once in the lot, you can turn right and take the road back to the parking area, or you can hike back over the mountain.  There are also several cool trails around Beeks Bight that will take you to some great scenery.

This is one of my favorite hikes, and it usually takes me about 45 minutes.  Twin Rocks road has a small parking lot as it curves into Boulder.  Access is available now, but I have heard rumors they are going to close this lot so you may have to park down the street.  This is really a great area for a number of hikes, as there are quite a few trails that wind and meet throughout the area.  As you pass the trail gate, there will be several offshoot trails to the right.  This one is the third on the left, and leads to one of my favorite views of Lake Folsom.  As you kike up the trail, there will be many offshoots.  If you stay on the main trail, you will end up at the top of a small mountain, with fantastic views as you can see in the picture.  At the summit, after you admire the scenery, turn around, proceed back and you will see another trail that goes down on your right.  This will wind down the mountain on the back side toward the lake.  The whole goal is to get down the mountain to the parking lot on the other side.  At any point you can cut down to the road and just go right to follow it around the mountain back to the starting point (See the map).

Great hike today with Chloe.  Drove up through Auburn on Highway 49 today, about 5 miles out of the city to reach the confluence area where Highway 49 and Old Forrest Hill road meet.  If you stay left on the split and continue on Old Forrest Hill Road, after you cross the bridge, the trail head is immediately to the left, with parking on both sides.  The hike is great, is flat for a bit and then starts an incline up the hill.  The views of the American River are beautiful, and it follows the trail on the left hand side as you ascend.  I walked for about 1/2 hour out,   but it got too dang hot to continue up to the lake.  If you walk across the bridge when you are done, there is a great little path down to a nice area for a picnic, or for your dog to get wet!!
